How much does a rupture disc cost?

Rupture Disc Frequently Asked Questions - July 15, 2025

Short answer: the price of a rupture disc depends mainly on size, burst pressure, material, disc type and the certifications required. There is no single list price: it is quoted for each application.

The factors that most affect cost are:

  • Material: a 316 stainless steel disc is the reference; nickel, Monel, Inconel, Hastelloy and, above all, tantalum raise the price significantly. Graphite is usually an economical alternative for acids.
  • Disc type: reverse-acting discs and sanitary designs involve more manufacturing processes than a solid forward-acting disc.
  • Size and pressure: large diameters and very low or very high pressures require special designs.
  • Disc holder: for a new installation, the disc holder is also quoted; it is reused in subsequent disc replacements.
  • Accessories and documentation: burst sensors, vacuum supports, ASME or ISO certification and material certificates.

To compare options, consider the total cost: a properly selected disc avoids premature bursts and shutdowns, which normally cost far more than the disc. The technical criteria are in the guide how to select a rupture disc, and if you already have your application data you can request a quote from P&V Control Devices.
