In short: the SANITRX HPX® II is the higher-pressure sanitary variant within the SANITRX family. It keeps the semicircular, scored, reverse-acting format of the SANITRX HPX®, but covers higher burst pressures for hygienic processes that run at higher pressure.
How it works
The dome is placed with its convex face toward the product, withstands compression while the pressure is normal and, on reaching the burst value, it reverses and opens along the score line without fragmenting. To achieve higher burst pressures with the same principle, a reverse-acting disc needs a stronger dome, which in general terms means changing the thickness or geometry. That is why a second version exists instead of stretching the range of the first: each design has a pressure window in which it opens accurately.
From a hygienic standpoint, the disc maintains what is expected of a component in contact with product: a polished interior surface (the manufacturer cites a finish on the order of 20 µin Ra), compatibility with CIP/SIP cleaning and sterilization, and materials that, according to the manufacturer, comply with ASME BPE, USP Class VI and 3-A. A practical detail specific to this model is the packaging: it is delivered in sanitary, toxin-free packaging with lower environmental impact, prepared for entry into clean rooms.
As for mounting, it fits between standard sanitary ferrules, NA-CONNECT® flanges or SANITRX fittings, with no additional adapters.
When it makes sense (and when it does not)
- It is suitable when a pharmaceutical, biotechnology or food process needs a burst pressure above the range of the SANITRX HPX®.
- It is suitable if the line uses NA-CONNECT® flanges or SANITRX fittings and you want to avoid transition pieces.
- Suitable for equipment that is frequently cleaned and sterilized in place.
- Not suitable if the required pressure fits within the original model: choosing the disc whose range fits best usually gives better accuracy.
- It does not apply to lines smaller than 1 inch; for 3/4" there is a specific version.
Data to specify it
- Required burst pressure and temperature (including that of the SIP cycle).
- Operating pressure, to verify the operating/burst ratio.
- Diameter, between 1 and 3 inches (25 to 80 mm), and connection type.
- Metal seal or non-metallic coating, depending on the fluid and cleaning agents.
- Packaging and documentation requirements for the cleanroom.
